Here comes the sun...

My body is still aching, my mastery of the English language has deteriorated markedly, and I feel like I could still do with some more sleep, but frankly all the pain was worth it. Great weather, great crew, great acting, great camera work, clear sound, super organised, and an amazing location.

But you know what? I think I’ll just let the images speak for themselves...

Looks fantastic!
I think you're going to need some "volunteers" to key out all those clouds

Also there seems to be some "Martian Moss" in shot on one of those pics.

Yeah, we've got our work cut out for us!

I'm very interested to know how your astronaut copes with that adapted Russian/Soviet GSH-6 helmet.

I own one of those as part of my collection of bits and pieces related to the Soviet space programme and I know that without being hooked up to a continous air supply it gets very stuffy and steams up very quickly.

It's also quite tricky to get on and off, as there is quite a complex mechanism of latches to connect the helmet to the neck ring assembly, which you are clearly using as well.

Just curious, as I know I wouldn't fancy wearing one of those things for too long.

You're spot on Tony - the helmet is a bit of a horror! We're coating the visor with demister between takes and remove the whole thing every chance we get, but even so it is very hard work on our actor.

Combine that with 20 minutes of make up, a space suit that takes half an hour to get on, and is uncomfortable and heavy to boot, and we have one very tired astronaut!

What kind of Soviet gear do you have? Our budget wouldn't stretch any further than a GSH-6 unfortunately (though I'm pretty happy with the result).

The GSH-6 is the only piece of real Soviet hardware I have, although I have lots of rarer period books, magazines, pins etc. As you say, the hardware is quite expensive to buy. Thank goodness for e-bay.

Although it must be physically hard on your actress, in a sense that's a good thing as a real spacesuit is not a fashion statement (!) and is a difficult thing to don, wear and work in.

Your suit looks really good in the shots you've released. If you could post some pics. of the helmet close up that would be of interest to me.

Good luck with the remainder of your work - look forward to seeing the finished movie.

Cheers, Phil, Tony.

Yeah, the actor is really working to the stress that the suit adds to the role. She supposed to be pretty exhausted anyway - so perfect.

We've got another shoot this weekend so more pics are on the way...
