Colour test 2

Take 2! Here's another experiment in recolouring our recent White Island footage to look like Mars, but this time using different techniques: more selective colouring and less wash to preserve some of the landscape's natural colours. I don't think I'm anywhere close to the final look yet however, still playing!

The point of that re-colouring is of course to make the dirt and rocks look red.
What's going to be most critical is how objects that are non-martian are going to look under that colour-scheme. For example the astronaut and her equipment.

Thats a very good point. The colour of the suit may be very difficult to isolate from the terrain making it difficult grade. I'm on leave 'till the end of Jan so have a bit of time to nut a few things out, just drop me a line.

I don't mind if the astronaut takes on a bit of an orange tinge, simply as if the light itself is a little orange, but yeah it is going to be a problem. I'm beginning to think that the more we shoot in front of the green screen the better.

Maybe the live action shots should be done without the sky in shot. So all the shots with sky are done on green screen. That way there's less problems with chroma-keying the sky. Mind you, for the sake of realism, the live action shots need to be shot under direct sunlight so that the shadows are hard edged. i don't think on Mars you'd find many overcast days. Which means ideally you'd shoot on a cloudless day. Without clouds, the keying of the sky is much less problematic.
